Do you remember Deco?

Remember the time of Frank Rijkaard? Under his management Barca won 5 trophies, including Champions League in the season of 2005-06. That Barca was amazing and unique. We all remember of the incredible Ronaldinho, as well as Samuel Eto'o, who were instrumental in this success, but also there was the midfield maestro Deco.

Before Don Andres ruled Europe and the World, Barca creative force, besides Xavi, was Anderson Luís de Souza "Deco". He arrived in Barcelona for €15 million + Ricardo Quaresma, after refusing to transfer in Chelsea. He arrived as a top class player, Champions League winner with Porto. Deco played 161 games for FC Barcelona in which he scored 22 goals.

Deco even was Ballon d'Or runner up in 2004, one place better than his teammate Ronaldinho. And he didn't disappoint, his first 2 seasons were absolutely fantastic.

It seemed like he played with Ronaldinho all his life. Deco also coped good with his midfield partners Xavi, Mota, Edmilson, Iniesta and later Van Bommel. His passing abilities perfectly harmonized with the Barcelona philosophy of play. But not only that this guys passed like a magician, he scored some wonderful goals also. Our personal favorite is the goal vs. Celtic in the Champions League.

Many fans consider him, besides Ronaldinho, as the best player in the successful 2005-06 season.

After Barca

The last season of Barca was harsh. He struggled with injuries and played only 29 games in total. After this season we never truly saw the real Deco again. He transferred to Chelsea and although he won the Premier League in 2010, he had bad 2 seasons struggling with injuries, bad games and harsh times when he wanted to leave the club. He finally left Chelsea in 2010 and transferred to Fluminense where he is currently playing.

This season he played 5 games and scored one goal for this Brazilian club. It is interesting that Deco has 5 children with 3 different women.

Take a look at this video and remember Deco and some good times. :)
